The Jaguar Type 01 is a powerful 1,015-horsepower electric GT, designed to redefine luxury EVs with its striking design and up to 400 miles of range.

Jaguar has introduced the new Type 01, a stunning four-door electric grand tourer that signifies a bold new chapter for the iconic British brand.
Boasting over 1,000 horsepower, a substantial 118-kWh battery, and an advanced 850-volt electrical architecture, the Type 01 is engineered to stand out in the competitive luxury electric vehicle market with an anticipated EPA range of 400 miles. Production is set to kick off in 2027, with orders commencing early that year, while UK prices will start from £130,000.
Transforming Jaguar's Identity
The Type 01 represents a significant shift in Jaguar's design philosophy, straying from its previous lineup to embrace a more unconventional aesthetic that aligns with its “Copy Nothing” mantra. The vehicle's profile features an elongated hood, a rearward-set cabin, and pronounced 23-inch wheels, resembling an exotic sports car more than a traditional EV sedan.
Notably, the design eliminates the conventional front grille and replaces the rear windshield with a camera-based rear-view system, integrating functionality into its striking form. Despite its impressive dimensions, the Type 01 achieves a commendable drag coefficient of 0.23, marking it as Jaguar’s most aerodynamic production car to date.
Power Meet Performance
Beyond its aesthetics, the Type 01's performance specs are equally compelling. The vehicle is powered by three electric motors—one at the front and two at the rear—delivering a staggering combined output of roughly 1,015 horsepower and 1,007 lb-ft of torque. These impressive figures translate to a remarkable acceleration, with Jaguar estimating a 0-60 mph sprint in around 3.1 seconds and 0-62 mph in approximately 3.2 seconds.
The car's powertrain leverages an 850-volt architecture paired with its 118-kWh usable battery. To enhance handling, Jaguar aims for a 50/50 weight distribution, strategically placing some battery cells ahead of the driver to optimize the vehicle's dynamics.
Impressive Range and Charging Solutions
Range remains a key selling point for the Type 01. Jaguar claims an EPA range of up to 400 miles, although those figures might be optimistic for sustained highway speeds, where the range could dip to about 320 miles. The vehicle supports high-speed DC fast charging, reportedly adding around 200 miles of range in just 13 minutes when connected to a 350-kW charger.
Moreover, Jaguar states that a full 10-to-80 percent charge takes approximately 22 minutes. The unique battery architecture accommodates both 400-volt and 800-volt charging capabilities, enhancing its versatility in the charging landscape.
A High-Tech Interior Experience
Inside, Jaguar continues its trend of unconventionality. The centerpiece of the dashboard is a large 24-inch OLED touchscreen, complemented by 7-inch displays for both front and rear passengers, allowing them to control various vehicle functions. The infotainment system is powered by Nvidia, facilitating over-the-air software updates while minimizing wiring throughout the cabin.
Audio experiences are taken to a new level with a 13-speaker soundbar setup, alongside additional speakers for active noise cancellation. However, the Type 01’s ambitious design comes with compromises; rear seating is limited to two passengers, and the design can make the cabin feel cramped, exacerbated by small door openings and restricted cargo capacity.
Proudly Built in Britain
The Type 01 will be designed, engineered, and built in the UK, with production facilities located at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull site, leveraging its dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Components such as electric drive units and battery packs will be manufactured in Wolverhampton, while body panels will be developed in Halewood.
Notably, nearly 9,000 employees at the Solihull facility have undergone retraining for EV production, showcasing Jaguar's commitment to its electric future.
Price and Market Positioning
Positioned as a luxury performance electric vehicle, the Jaguar Type 01's starting price in the UK will be £130,000, with similar pricing projected in the U.S. Orders are expected to open early in 2027, while customer deliveries will commence later that year.
Clearly, Jaguar aims to carve a niche for itself with the Type 01, which may not suit every consumer's preferences but seeks to cultivate a new brand identity, enticing those in search of distinctive luxury EV experiences.
